Isobutane, also known as 2-methylpropane, is an organic substance with a chemical formula of C4H10 and a CAS number of 75-28-5. It is a colorless, slightly odorous flammable gas under normal temperature and pressure. It has low toxicity and can be regarded as a simple asphyxiant. Melting point: -159.4°C, boiling point: -11.73°C, slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether, etc. Mainly exist in natural gas, refinery gas and cracked gas, obtained by physical separation, etc., can also be obtained by isomerization of n-butane. It forms an explosive mixture with air, and the explosion limit is 1.9% to 8.4% (volume). It may burn and explode when exposed to heat sources and open flames. It reacts violently on contact with oxidants. Its vapor is heavier than air and can spread to a considerable distance at a lower place, and will ignite when it encounters a fire source. It is mainly used to produce isooctane through alkylation with isobutylene, which is used as gasoline octane improver; through cracking, it can produce isobutylene and propylene; it can be alkylated with n-butene and propylene to produce alkylated gasoline; it can produce methyl alcohol. Acrylic acid, acetone, methanol, etc. Used in the synthesis of isooctane, as a gasoline octane improver, used in the production of isobutylene, propylene, methacrylic acid, as a refrigerant, refrigerant, etc. High-purity isobutane is mainly used as standard gas and the preparation of special standard mixed gas. Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse for flammable gases. Keep away from fire and heat sources. The storage temperature should not exceed 30°C. should be kept away from oxidizer, do not store together. Use explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities. It is forbidden to use mechanical equipment and tools that are prone to sparks. The storage area should be equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment.
