Isopentane, also known as 2-methylbutane, has a chemical formula of C5H12. It is a colorless, transparent and volatile liquid with a pleasant aromatic odor. The combustion (decomposition) products are carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Pentane can be obtained from the catalytic cracking and thermal decomposition of natural gas or petroleum. Mainly used in organic synthesis, it can be used as a solvent for the catalyst in the production of polyethylene, a blowing agent for expandable polystyrene, a blowing agent for polyurethane foam systems, a deasphalting solvent, etc.; when used as a solvent, it can be used with pentane, Alkane, heptane, etc. have the same effect, and the solubility is slightly worse than that of pentane. This product has a high octane number and can be used as fuel for automobiles and airplanes.
