Sulfur hexafluoride, whose chemical formula is SF6, is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic, and non-flammable stable gas. Sulfur hexafluoride is gaseous under normal temperature and pressure, with stable chemical properties, slightly soluble in water, alcohol and ether, soluble in potassium hydroxide, and does not react chemically with sodium hydroxide, liquid ammonia and hydrochloric acid. It does not react with copper, silver, iron, and aluminum in a dry environment below 300°C. Below 500℃, it has no effect on quartz. It reacts with metallic sodium at 250°C, and reacts in liquid ammonia at -64°C. It will decompose when mixed with hydrogen sulfide and heated. At 200℃, in the presence of certain metals such as steel and silicon steel, it can promote its slow decomposition. Sulfur hexafluoride is a new generation of ultra-high voltage insulating material, which is widely used for gas insulation of electronics, electrical equipment and radar waveguides, and as an insulating material for arc extinguishing and large-capacity transformers in high-voltage switches. The advantages of SF6 gas-insulated pipeline transmission lines are low dielectric loss, large transmission capacity, and can be used in high-drop occasions. SF6 gas insulated transformer has the advantages of fire and explosion protection. Sulfur hexafluoride has the characteristics of good chemical stability and non-corrosion to equipment. It can be used as a refrigerant in the refrigeration industry (operating temperature between -45~0℃). Electronic grade high-purity sulfur hexafluoride is an ideal electronic etchant, which is widely used in the field of microelectronics technology as a plasma etching and cleaning agent in the manufacture of large integrated circuits such as computer chips and liquid crystal screens. Storage precautions: Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat sources. The storage temperature should not exceed 30°C. It should be stored separately from easily (combustible) combustibles and oxidants, and avoid mixed storage. The storage area should be equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment.
①Dielectric medium:
SF6 is used in the electrical industry as a gaseous dielectric medium for high-voltage circuit breakers, switchgear, and other electrical equipment, often replacing oil filled circuit breakers (OCBs) that can contain harmful PCBs.
②Medical use:
SF6 is used to provide a tamponade or plug of a retinal hole in retinal detachment repair operations in the form of a gas bubble
③Tracer compound:
SF6 is used to provide a tamponade or plug of a retinal hole in retinal detachment repair operations in the form of a gas bubble
