R134a (1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane) is the most widely used medium and low temperature environmentally friendly refrigerant. R-134a is currently internationally recognized as the best environmentally friendly substitute for R-12. It does not destroy the ozone layer at all. It is an environmentally friendly refrigerant recognized and recommended by most countries in the world. It is also the current mainstream environmentally friendly refrigerant. It is widely used in the initial installation and maintenance of new refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment. R134a has very low toxicity, is non-flammable in the air, and has a safety category of A1, which is a very safe refrigerant. R134a is mainly used in many fields, including: refrigerators, freezers, water dispensers, automotive air conditioners, central air conditioners, dehumidifiers, cold storage, commercial refrigeration, ice water machines, ice cream machines, refrigeration condensing units and other refrigeration equipment. Aerosol propellant, medical aerosol, insecticide propellant, polymer (plastic) physical foaming agent, and magnesium alloy shielding gas, etc. R-134a can be widely used as a refrigerant in automobile air conditioners, refrigerators, central air conditioners, commercial refrigeration and other industries, and can be used in medicine, pesticides, cosmetics, and cleaning industries. The chemical stability of R134a is very good. However, because its water solubility is higher than that of R22, it is not good for the refrigeration system. Even if there is a small amount of water, it will produce acid, carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide under the action of lubricating oil. Corrosion or “copper plating” is produced, so R134a requires higher drying and cleaning of the system. R134a has no chemical reaction with steel, iron, copper, aluminum and other metals, and only has a slight effect on zinc.
